In the next few weeks, OpenAI will reportedly launch an AI-powered web browser that will shake a landscape that is currently dominated by Google Chrome.
According to Reuters, ‘OpenAI is close to releasing an AI-powered web browser that will challenge Alphabet’s (GOOGL.O) market-dominating Google Chrome’.
The browser will integrate OpenAI’s ChatGPT functionality to offer real-time summarisation, intelligent web navigation, and voice command. And if the browser is adopted by all 500 million active weekly ChatGPT users, it could put serious pressure on direct rival, Google Chrome.
Unlike traditional browsers, which require users to manually search for and analyse information across the web, OpenAI’s solution aims to anticipate a user’s needs and take the manual effort out of online tasks.
This news comes around the same time that Perplexity, another AI-powered answer engine, released its own web browser, Comet.
These AI-powered browsers signify the change we are beginning to see in the way we engage with content online. Soon AI will be able to act on a user’s behalf, booking hotels, making reservations, and even making purchases for us. And if OpenAI’s browser successfully converts its hundreds of millions of users, it could drive billions of searches away from Google and challenge the advertising dominance of Alphabet.
For advertisers using Google Ads, it may be time to diversify beyond the Google Ads ecosystem because these chat-based interfaces could have a significant impact on clicks, targeting, and traditional interfaces.
