Google Search Console (GSC) is a free and popular tool that allows users to keep track of their presence in the search results. If you’ve recently set up a Google Search Console account, you may be looking to share access with internal team members or an external marketing team. Luckily, the process is quick and easy. Here’s how to do it:
Open settings - Located in the main menu on the left-hand-side.
Select ‘Users and Permissions’.
Add user - Click the blue button that says ‘Add User’.
Add user details - A box will appear asking you to enter the email address of the user you wish to add and choose their permissions level. You can change their permission level later, but verified owners can only be removed, not downgraded.
Step 2: Assign Access
Google Search Console offers different levels of access to the dashboard depending on a user’s permissions.
Your options are:
Owner - You have to have at least one verified owner, any additional owners are known as delegate owners. Owners have full access to all features within GSC, including the ability to add or remove property owners and users.
Full - Users with full access can view all data with GSC but can’t perform every available action e.g. add/remove users.
Restricted - Users with restricted access can only view or perform action in certain areas of GSC.
Associate - People or accounts who can access certain data or take certain actions on behalf of your site.
How much permission you give a user is entirely up to you and dependent on your individual situation. For example, an external marketing team may require full access but an internal team member may only need restricted access.
